Art 1B

Art 1B

This course emphasizes Art & Design Elements (Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Tone) and Principles (Focal Point, Balance, Leading Lines, Pattern, Perspective, Proportion and Scale) in creating visual compositions. Students study Modern and Postmodern artists as “mentors” for their visual work.

In the first part of the course, students explore exercises that help them develop technical skills with various art materials in relationship to the Elements and Principles.

In the second part of the course, students work on a “mini-portfolio” to present at the Beekman Student Exhibition at the end of the semester, using critique methods that have been taught throughout the entire semester.

Ideally, students complete Art 1A before Art 1B, but each course can “stand alone” as well.
