The Beekman School meets individually with students to create a customized schedule, according to each person's needs.
For commuters from New Jersey, Westchester, Connecticut, or Long Island, we can create a later start.
For students who have pre-professional commitments outside of school, we can design a schedule that ends early, starts late, or has a long break in the day.
For students who are coming back to school after an extended illness, we can create a reduced schedule so that they can start with two or three classes and increase their courseload when able.
For students who need additional courses to make up missing credits or to accelerate for an early graduation, extra subjects can be added or can be taken at the end of the traditional school day through The Tutoring School.
At Beekman, we can provide personalized support adapted to each student's specific learning needs. The Beekman School offers a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:7, a reduced courseload for students who would like to focus on fewer classes, supervised study halls throughout the day to help students complete homework under the watchful eye of a Beekman faculty member, and scheduled free periods built into each teacher's and student's day, providing opportunities to discuss specific questions.
All students in The Beekman School receive up to double-time on tests. In addition, the use of iPads/electronic tablets is required in the classroom and may also be used for tests by permission of the Head of School.
The Beekman School works in tandem with The Tutoring School to provide a holistic program that maximizes each student's educational path. For students who are looking for a welcoming community but need the additional support of tutors, one-to-one classes, or small classes, we can provide a high school experience that also allows for peer interaction and social connections.
The Tutoring School has tutors for all educational needs: we have subject-specific tutors to improve performance in a particular course, study skills tutors who develop strategies with students to help them complete homework, and test-prep tutors for standardized assessments.
We offer one-to-one classes in most subjects combined with flexibility in scheduling, pacing, and level. We can even coordinate with a student's current school to match a particular curriculum. Additionally, private tutoring is available through The Tutoring School for educational enrichment and support. Classes may be taken within our inviting school, at the student's home, face-to-face via the Internet, or another venue if it is appropriate. Courses can begin and end at any time, and our staff is happy to work with each student to optimize his or her learning experience.
Our computer-based classes combine traditional teaching/tutoring with a face-to-face lesson to accommodate those students who are unable to come to our school. Through The Tutoring School, learners are allowed to enroll in accredited, online high school courses throughout the year. In addition to credit-based classes, supplemental tutoring and test preparation programs are available.
The Beekman School offers accelerated programs for students who are ready to move ahead of the regular school curriculum, and remedial classes for those who are looking to improve certain basic skills.
Upper-level courses like Calculus, Theoretical Physics, Spanish IV, AP English, and AP U.S. History are generally offered through The Beekman School. The Tutoring School is able to offer all of these courses and more, having offered Advanced Statistics and classes for multiple foreign languages, as well as fundamental courses like English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Pre-Algebra, and English Skills. The Tutoring School is the ideal place to assist students who need to work on certain basic skills or excel in above-grade-level subjects.
The Tutoring School is able to provide teachers who work with homeschool parents on a curriculum that makes sense for their children, particularly in hard-to-teach subjects like upper-level mathematics, foreign languages, or lab sciences.
The Tutoring School offers individual and group lessons in a fully-equipped science room for Biology and Chemistry labs. There is limited availability; contact the school for rates and scheduling options.
Students who wish to take a course that is not offered at their school, or who would like to earn additional credits, may take classes at the end of their current school day through The Tutoring School.
We offer reduced or accelerated course loads for those students who would like to expedite or delay their graduation.
For students who wish to graduate in less than four years of high school, we recommend an unrivaled array of options through a combination of Beekman and Tutoring School classes during the school year, as well as a mini-session in June and a summer session in July and August, tailored to each student's specific needs.
For students who wish to focus on a limited number of classes each semester and extend graduation beyond the traditional four years, we work with individuals to design a customized schedule that works with personal plans.
The Tutoring School has tutors who work with students at our location, at your home, or face-to-face over the Internet in a variety of test-prep areas. We offer individualized test preparation for the following exams: ISEE, SSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, GED, TOEFL, IELTS, and Regents exams.
The Beekman School offers classes to students who have finished high school but are not yet ready for college, or who wish to delay enrollment in college in order to improve their writing, language, or math skills.
Students who are 19 years old or younger at the start of the school year may participate in Beekman classes, while students who are 20 or older take courses through The Tutoring School.
The Beekman School is an AP exam site. All exams are offered through The Tutoring School, with the exception of the Chinese, Japanese, and Music Theory exams. Contact us for details and fees.
The Beekman School offers comprehensive summer school programs with flexible enrollment options that include full and short-term sessions for high school students in and around New York City.
The Beekman School allows students to take a full-year course, a semester course, repeat a course, or complete a course through the standard Beekman classes. 9th, 10th, and 11th grade courses in history, English, science, and math are offered. All other courses and/or specific scheduling needs are accommodated through The Tutoring School.
Students who attend our summer sessions can accelerate their graduation by earning additional credits, making up missing credits, or enriching their knowledge in a wide range of specific subject areas.
The Beekman School is a participant in the United States Government's I-20 student visa program and can accommodate students from foreign countries who meet our requirements.
We do not provide housing or host families, but we do work with parents (even when they don't live in the U.S.), as well as guardians of international students, to assist in the educational process. The Tutoring School offers ESOL classes to students who need to improve their English skills, and students are allowed to audit Beekman courses while they are still improving their English.
For students who are away from school on a medical leave or any other reason, The Tutoring School can work with a student's school to teach the missed material so that the student can re-enter later and be up-to-date with his/her classmates.
