Opportunity schools cater to a range of students, from the highly gifted to those requiring more flexible classroom environments. At The Beekman School, we can adapt high school curriculums to meet the individual needs of each of our students.
For example, some students need to organize their class schedule around their pursuit of extracurricular activities. Professional ballet dancers may attend school only in the morning while accomplished musicians who attend lengthy rehearsals in the morning could return to our school in the afternoon.
In other instances, health issues prevent students from keeping a regular schedule. They may need a limited, part-time schedule or to manage course work from home until they can transfer back into a traditional classroom setting. At The Beekman School, we seek to enroll students who will work in partnership with our school to embrace our challenging ― yet rewarding ― philosophy toward education.
Customized Learning Through Opportunity Education
Being an opportunity school means that the curriculum for each student is extremely individualized. Before each semester, we create a schedule that accommodates as many of our students’ needs as possible. If a student requires more attention outside of our traditional classroom setting, our Tutoring School offers many different courses, paced according to the student's particular needs. If students would like to change their schedule, our policy allows schedules to be adjusted swiftly and efficiently.
Our Opportunity School is Always Open to New Students
At The Beekman School, we have a rolling admissions policy, which means we are always able to to admit new students. We create new sections of classes if students enrolling exceed our class size limit. We also accommodate home-schooled students who need labs, upper-level math or science courses, or multiple foreign language classes.
