Cultural Diversity in Art

Study Cultural Diversity in Art at The Beekman School

This combination art history/art studio course delves into the cultures and religions of Africa, India, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Korea, Islam, Oceania, the Pacific Islands and the Americas.

Field trips to local institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum and the Asia Society, hands-on projects, and videos will give the students the closest experience possible to actually traveling to these exotic destinations. The final project for the course asks students to create a two-week itinerary to the destination of their choice from our studies to view the art of the culture. The assignment underscores the emphasis on making the experience as real as possible to engender the desire to experience all kinds of art first-hand across the globe.
