Students choose to take high school English classes in the summer for a variety of reasons – from accelerating their education, to repeating a failed course, to strengthening basic skills. During our regular summer session, students can enroll in the following general literature and composition courses:
- English I
- English II
- English III
- English IV (through The Tutoring School)
After successfully completing a summer English class, high school students will earn a full semester credit. These credits are transferable to other New York high schools. Our regular summer session spans 24 days in July and August. Two-hour classes are held Monday through Thursday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., with four classes scheduled each day. Students requiring 9th through 11th grade level credits can attend English classes during the summer session, with history, math, and science courses also available during this timeframe.
In addition to our standard summer school classes, we have options for instruction in core subjects through The Tutoring School. We believe high school English requirements can often be more successfully met when busy students are offered an individualized curriculum that accommodates specific needs and schedules.
Remedial Summer English Curriculum for High School Students
Six weeks of focused learning can both increase knowledge and reinforce core skills. A remedial summer English curriculum for high school students helps participants master key concepts, achieve grade-level proficiency, and build on academic success. By completing classes that match their grade levels and skill sets, students gain knowledge and confidence. They will also be better prepared for their next course sequence. Enrollment sign-ups start in June. Students should mark their calendars to secure a spot in one of our regular summer classes or to create a personalized English summer school curriculum.
