Admission to The Beekman School

A Boutique Private High School in New York City

Students who apply for admission to The Beekman School are embarking on a journey of personal fulfillment in a New York City private high school. The Beekman School combines a traditional, college-preparatory education with a flexible, yet structured, academic approach. The admissions process for our private high school allows us to welcome a diverse group of students each year who are ready to realize their academic potential and achieve their educational goals. With our rolling admissions policy, prospective students can enroll in our NYC high school at any time throughout the school year. Young women and men who have not found a favorable match in their current academic programs are encouraged to consider The Beekman School. Our high school students benefit from personalized academic programs as they maximize their learning potential, draw upon their creative talents, and prepare for a college education.

The Interview Process

It is a reflection of the school's philosophy that it does not use admissions tests as a means to determine a prospective student's eligibility to attend the school. Instead, the Head of School meets with each prospective student and his or her parents in an intensive interview to assess whether the school would be a good match for the student. Previous school transcripts and records of testing are reviewed to determine the proper class placement, but they are never solely used to determine a course of study. Prospective students are also welcome to observe for a half or full day so that they can gain a clearer understanding of the style of the school.

Rolling Admissions

While it is advisable that interviews take place during the early spring of the year prior to entry, the Beekman School accepts students throughout the school year. Students who have chosen a school or program that does not seem to be a good match are encouraged to contact the school at any time to arrange an interview. The rolling admissions policy exists precisely for this purpose.

If the traditional Beekman School program is filled, students can begin their day in the afternoon and take their required courses through The Tutoring School, which uses the same syllabi and textbooks as The Beekman School.

Accreditation

The Beekman School understands that a successful secondary education is of vital importance to all young adults. That is why The Beekman School is available to students who wish to participate actively in his or her education. The Beekman School is accredited by the Middle States Association.  In addition, Beekman is registered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York and is a member of the College Entrance Examination Board and the Educational Records Bureau.

Application Requirements for Mid-Year Transfer Students

We have designed an admissions process that complements our school’s philosophy of putting the student first. The application requirements for transfer students offer candidates greater flexibility in applying to our private high school or transitioning into our learning community throughout the year. At The Beekman School, students do not take admissions tests. Instead, they participate in a comprehensive interview process to determine whether our high school is a good match for their needs. Whether students wish to apply for admission in the fall, or at another time during the year, arranging a personal interview at Beekman is often the first step toward a rewarding educational experience. We are a transfer friendly school and accept credits from local, national and international schools. You may discover that the right private school in Manhattan can provide the perfect balance of academic and personal achievement.
